A D&D Musical

el

Hamilton is a very famous musical created by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the American Founding Fathers. The show’s music blends hip hop and R&B with pop and soul. Through this use of modern storytelling methods, Hamilton has been described as being about «America then, as told by America now.»

hmi0044Hamilton has been acclaimed by critics and box office. The show premiered at the Public Theater Off-Broadway on February 17, 2015, where its engagement was sold out. It has won eight Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical. At the 2016 Tony Awards, Hamilton received a record-setting 16 nominations, eventually winning 11 awards, including Best Musical. It also received the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

A 2016 stage performance with the original cast was filmed and offered for bidding to major movie studios, which Disney purchased on February 3 for $75 million. It will be released in movie theaters in October 2021.

The musical has become such a staple that in 2015, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced a redesign to the $10 bill, with plans to replace Hamilton with a then-undecided woman from American history… but because of the renewed Hamilton’s popularity, it reversed the plans to replace Hamilton’s portrait, instead deciding to replace Andrew Jackson with Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill.

So why am I giving you this art lesson? Well, it seems I’m not the only one obsessed with the musical. Adam Bradford, part of the D&D Beyond team, mostly known for giving the Development Updates to the website, attended the musical recently and prepared the most epic homage anyone who plays D&D could have ever done.

He made his own Hamilton version!
